CTU kindly allowed their opponents some leeway in the team line ups so as to overcome illness and absence but once the game began they were their usual clinical selves. Admittedly they might have scored more than 102 after the openers had made over half of that but this was less to do with being charitable and more to do with their later pairs losing wickets when attacking too much.Ova Throws stuck to their task in the field and although they missed a few chances they could have taken they did manage to bag a few difficult ones. Luke bowled better than his figures suggest, several times getting batsmen playing and missing.
CTU had won their previous two games by three-figure margins and they came close to doing so again. When they bowled fast they were ruthlessly efficient, probing the corridor with subtle away swing and attacking the stumps with ones that went the other way. The slower bowlers found exaggerated turn, sometimes pitching on or just outside off only to leave both the batsman and the keeper stretching. On the few occasions any of the attack did lose accuracy it was usually just the ball doing too much. Ova Throws struggled to just break even but such was the lack of respite it would be harsh to criticise them for their approach or their execution.
The result consolidated the teams’ positions at opposite ends of the table. However, Ova Throws can now take comfort from not having to play CTU again, their games against other teams have been very close affairs. Whether anyone else can mount a challenge to the leaders remains to be seen.
